Presentation: After some networking, one hour showing of the NOVA documentary "The Space Shuttle Disaster", a film about the disaster of the Space Shuttle Columbia" in 2003, that covers the investigation of the human failure and design flaws behind the Columbia tragedy and:

  • The "insider" who warns of the problems & calls to action that went unheeded
  • The investigator who fought NASA officials' denial with hard evidence
  • Discovering the cause of the tragedy after piecing together the debris
  • Arguments within the aerospace community for and against future Space Shuttle missions

Following the film, we will have a discussion about the Space Shuttle disaster and how it could have been avoided by implementing the tools of an effective quality management system.  Then, more networking afterwards.

Feb 5 presentation and networking both informative and enjoyable PDF Print E-mail

The February 5 meeting, which included social networking and a presentation from Doug Hoffman entitled "Avoiding the Test and Test Again Syndrome" was a productive second event since the reboot of our San Francisco Section of ASQ.  The topic was very informative and useful (especially to those of us in the tech industry), and based on the questions from the audience afterwards, there was broad interest in the topic.  The attendees also seemed pleased with the format (networking from 6 to 7 pm and 8 to 9 pm, with snacks instead of a full dinner, and a formal presentation from 7 to 8 pm), and everyone appreciated the new meeting space, donated by Booz Allen Hamilton on the 33rd Floor of 101 California, with a gorgeous nighttime view of the Bay Bridge.

The one item of official business was presented by Rob Power, the Chair of the Nominating Committee, which was that the slate of officer Nominees for the 2009-2010 fiscal year are Gerard Auguste for Chair, Joe Vivolo for Secretary, and Barrie Simpson for Treasurer -- the current officers, running for re-election.  All other offices listed here are appointed by the Chair with consultation from the Leadership Committee.  Unless someone steps forward in the next month to contest one or more of these offices, we will announce the election of this slate at our March 19 meeting.  In the event of any contested offices, the list of nominees will be announced on March 19, and the election will be at our April meeting.

More photos and video clips will follow soon.
